How do you take care of a bamboo plant?

I have a bamboo plant and my bf bought it for me on valentines day so ive had it for maybe 4 months now. Well at first my cat got a hold of it and eat some of the leaves so i looked up what to do about that and it said that i was supposed to cut the dead leaves off, so thats what i did. and ever since then it hasnt changed color or anything like that its still the light green color, no yellow or anything and we change the water about every 2-3 days and we keep it in our bathroom. and i was wondering if thats okay to keep it in the bathroom, cuz i know its not supposed to have direct sunlight so almost every day ill put it by the window but in the window it doesnt get direst sunlight. So i guess im just wondering if its alright to keep it in the bathroom and im wondering why it seems like its not growing and if thats a normal thing? If you could help me out... thatd be awesome :)
