Photoshop Elements 8 problems? Help?

I just bought Wacom's Bamboo Pen and Touch. I was super excited because this would be my first tablet. After I downloaded the information, I opend Photoshop. I noticed while drawing, it took a while to process the pen marks. (I would draw on the area and it would take more than a minute to process.) Also, it takes a while to save. I have Windows 7 and my hard drive is not full. What's the problem?
